Fruiting body has characteristic shine and lacquered surface. Grows on dead deciduous trees and stumps.
Collect on old or dead deciduous trees, often on oaks and beeches Search during warm months from June to October
Collect only mature specimens with a shiny surface. Note the flat shape and reddish-brown color.
Clean dirt and wood debris. Dry in a warm, well-ventilated place. Boil before consumption.
